How to use the 4Cs to refine your value proposition
The 4Cs (Clarity, Credibility, Consistency, Competitiveness) is most often used in marketing communications and was created by David Jobber and John Fahy in their book ‘Foundations of Marketing’ (2009). Once a business has segmented its marketing and identified the target audience, the next stage is to position the business. To successfully achieve this, the 4Cs is a useful tool to create a positioning statement or to build an online value proposition.
What are the 4Cs?
The 4Cs are designed to help you think about your value proposition.
To understand how this works in practice, I’ve looked at four well-known companies and what’s interesting is that their slogans all meet the rules of Clarity, Credibility and Consistency. The Competitiveness element is less clear. And I am not sure how you would convey competitiveness…
Western countries will see huge increase in the number of connected devices per person
New data forecasts show how the number of connected devices is set to explode, approximately doubling the rate seen in 2014 in just three more years. Interestingly, it is the areas that already have the most connected devices which will see the biggest increase.
North America, which leads the world in connected devices per person is set to have over 11 connected devices per person on average by 2019. This mean a typical family home with four people in may have 44 connected devices!
All these connected devices will be creating data, and lots of it. This raises privacy concerns, but also the possibility of understanding customers far better than we do now. Would you want your Smart fridge to tell advertisers that you are out of Yogurt, so all…

A true omnichannel strategy makes the most of offline not just online
Consider the main ingredients to a sale when a customer is in your place of business. You have product placements that suggest what a customer should buy, education on the products and services you are selling, the ability to experience your brand firsthand, and most important, people available to educate buyers and make a sale. All these make up the customer experience, and digital is just another component.
Clearly, bricks-and-mortar businesses that aren’t yet capitalizing on their digital channels were successful before the internet took over their industries. There are reasons for that success, and those can give you an edge over your internet-born competitors.
Digitizing Your Offline Strategy
A successful online strategy shouldn’t be a matter of abandoning old tactics and replacing them with a trend. It should…
