The State of Mobile Marketing 2016 [Infographic]

Showing the huge impact of mobile marketing across web, social, display and email

The rapid rise of smartphone and tablet adoption has affected almost every aspect of digital marketing. The impact ranges from the most recent Advanced Mobile Pages to Google's smartphone search results through to the lower conversion rates on smartphones, use of social media on mobile and ensuring that our emails are mobile-friendly.

In our latest infographic with JBH Marketing, we've brought together all the most important changes in a single infographic to highlight the areas needing attention. The tipping point has now been passed, and large sites like Google and Facebook are now seeing a considerable majority of their traffic coming from mobile devices.

    • Thank you for your comment Bilal – yes mobile-friendly is a ‘must have’ for all new sites now – and existing ones need to be upgraded. You too!

  • Good insights Dave. I’ve found I have more success when I just take time to think through consumer behavior and what they are likely to actually do with their phone. As an example, If the service I’m promoting is a Dr’s appointment, then make sure the phone number is easily clicked to make a call and make sure there is a person that will actually answer the phone to set up an appointment. When you have a QR code sitting out for people to scan, make sure it takes them to a mobile friendly landing page and not just the home page. Things like that seem to be beyond some marketers.

  • ‘Is there really a move from desktop computers to mobile computers?’

Yes! The comScore data above and device sales figures show this. Beyond this it is nuanced with many multi-device users using desktop and mobile for different purposes. Smartphone conversion rates shows this.

I like your idea of old-tech mobile being replaced by new tech mobile, but either way the customer preferences for devices or media has changed so marketers need to respond – which is what we were looking to show in the infographic.

    Thanks for the comment!

  • Is there really a move from desktop computers to mobile computers?

Or is this better seen as old-tech mobile (newspapers/magazines/radios/etc) being replaced by new-tech mobile (phones/tablets/watches/etc) which just happen to use existing delivery mechanisms such as web or email.

Nobody much says that “English” (or French, Spanish, Vietnamese) is moving to mobile and that marketers have to make sure that their written language is “mobile friendly”, because it is what it is on each platform.
