The Power of Customised Facebook Landing Tabs

Value: [rating=4]

Our commentary: This is a useful post by Jay Baer on the Social Media Examiner site. His point is that though getting someone to click your "Like" button is paramount to success, once they have you need to work them since 99.5% of user interactions come from the user's wall or newsfeeds, naturally. This data (from Facebook consultancy BrandGlue), makes getting "liked" your major objective, otherwise your simply not in the game. So how can you get more likes? BrandGlue suggest that using a custom landing tab on their clients Welcome page increases their conversion rates by 100% or more in almost every case.

Marketing implications: The great news is that custom landing tabs are easy and inexpensive to create. Here are three options for creating a custom landing tab for your Facebook Welcome page. Make sure you partner someone if you're not totally comfortable doing the work yourself:

  1. TabSite: At $5 per month (and a free version too), TabSite allows you to create and manage the content on your custom tab as if it was a web page or blog post, including adding multimedia. Instead of having a basic custom tab with one image, you can have multiple images, videos, text, etc with upto 5 pages beneath the custom tabs. This appears the best option for an application where you want more content within your custom tabs
  2. North Social: $19 per month gets access to a large (15+ and growing) stable of widgets. In addition to photo galleries, video applications, discussion boards and other options, North Social has a custom tab creator called First Impression. The downside is it's a lot more than a custom tab solution so could be overkill - but it's not exactly expensive and gives you scale if that's what you're looking for
  3. Pagelever: For a paltry $20 per annum this is the cheapest and easiest of all custom landing tab creation options. Pagelever allows you to upload a single image and create a welcome tab in about two minutes, including the ability to add "Fan Only" content, available immediately the second that someone clicks "Like", without the page needing to re-load. Cool. If all you want is custom tabs with a drive to the "Like" button then this is surely the best choice

Jay suggests that bigger companies may be more attracted to the all-in-one management suits - companies like Involver, Buddy Media and Vitrue have custom tab components. And, for the more DIY orientated you can of course do this yourself - just beware the risks and time required to get it right.
