[...] The reason I’m writing this post is that value measures within Google Analytics appear to be hidden to the majority of end-users. I say this because many attendees to my Google Analytics workshop as well as Brian’s bespoke Google Analytics training aren’t familiar with value measures at all, even though they are existing users. This appears to be because to define value requires customisation, which often doesn’t happen (see step 5 in my post on 6 levels of customisation for Google Analytics). [...]

Thanks for sharing your comparison of Filters vs Advanced Segments Brian - appreciated!

When I was responding to Tim's comment I was sure I'd seen a good blog post to reference on this. Now I Know.

I look forward to reviewing your new book on this blog soon - I know you have many details on the latest customisations that I don't have space for in this already long post!

Hi Jane,

That seems the right approach - you should use the same tracking code. It takes a while to propagate, so hopefully you can see that now.

In future, it's fine to ask here, but you'll probably get a speedier response or the question will already have been asked at <a href="http://groups.google.com/group/analytics-help" rel="nofollow">Google Groups - Analytics Help</a>. This is also searchable via the main Google Help pages.

Great detailed article Dave.

To add some reasoning to Tim's comment about advanced segments not being available in Funnel reports, the reason (as you also allude to), is that funnels are based on pageview metrics, while advanced segments are based on visits (sessions). For obvious reasons these cannot be combined, though I am sure G are working on it ;)

The following may also shed some light on Filters v Advanced Segments:
http://www.advanced-web-metrics.com/blog/2009/12/09/how-to-choose-between-advanced-segments-versus-profile-filters-in-google-analytics/

As an example, here's a post form me on using a filter to track social network visitors. It was written before Advanced Segments became available, but the same technique can also be used if an advanced segment is preferred - I use both:

I've just set up a new profile, so that I can track a sub-folder of my main profile. However I've set up the new profile with the same info as the main profile (I haven't added any new tracking code to my site) but it's not showing any figures yet - (I haven't added the filter yet to the send profile for the sub-folder as I wanted to check that the figures were coming through before I did it). Does it take a while to show the figures? or have I missed something?
